OxidIELTS ("we") runs IELTS practice tests and marks them, partly with automated services. This page says what we collect, why, who else handles it on our behalf, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. Questions:[email protected].
Institutes
Some coaching institutes run their own site on OxidIELTS, under their name. If you use one, the institute decides how your results are used for its classes, and its owner and teachers can see your work (see "Who sees what"). We provide and run the service for them under this policy. For questions about how your institute uses your results, ask the institute.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address, a securely hashed password, and your target band if you set one.
- Your tests: the answers you give, essays you write, Speaking recordings you make, and the bands and feedback you receive.
- Live Speaking tests: a written transcript of what you and the examiner said, and measurements of your speech (such as speaking rate, pauses and how clearly words were recognised). The audio itself is not stored.
- Tests set by an institute: if your institute sets a test as an assignment, we also note when the browser sees you leave the test — switch tab or window, leave full screen, copy or paste — and show this to your teachers. We do not record your screen or camera.
- Payments: what you ordered, the amount, the order reference, and the payment details you give us to check a payment: the number or account you paid from, the transaction ID and, if you add one, a screenshot.
- If you start an institute: its legal name, registration number, address and phone, a copy of its business registration or trade licence, and a copy of the owner's ID (and, if you send one, a proof of address). Our staff use these only to check the institute is a real business; the copies are deleted 30 days after we decide.
- Technical data: your IP address and browser details, used to keep the service secure and to stop abuse.
- Your devices: the devices your account is signed in on (such as "Chrome on Android"), when each was last used and from which IP address — so an account is used by one person, one device at a time. You can see and sign out your devices on Your account.
How we use it
- To run your tests, mark them, and show you your results and progress.
- To check payments and give you what you paid for.
- To send you emails about your account, orders and tests (we do not send marketing email without your consent).
- To keep the service secure, and to fix problems.
We do not sell your data, and we do not show advertising.
Automated marking
Writing, Speaking and live Speaking tests are marked by AI services. Bands from them are estimates for practice, not IELTS results, and a teacher can review and replace them.
- To mark an essay or a spoken answer, we send the AI service the question and your answer (or its transcript) — not your name, email address or phone number. Before sending, we remove email addresses, phone numbers and links that appear in what you wrote or said.
- To mark a Speaking recording, we send it to a speech-to-text service, which returns a transcript; we then delete the recording from that service.
- In a live Speaking test, your voice is sent to the speech service as you speak so it can be turned into text, and the examiner's voice is produced by the same kind of service.
Who sees what
- You.
- Your institute, if you joined one: its owner and teachers see your results, essays, Speaking recordings and transcripts, and the notes about leaving a test described above.
- Our staff, when they check a payment, help you with a problem, or mark your work by hand.
- Service providers that work for us: cloud hosting and storage, AI marking services, speech services (speech-to-text and text-to-speech), and email delivery. They handle your data only to provide their service to us.
- Authorities, only where the law requires it.
Where your data is processed
Our servers and service providers are cloud services, and your data may be stored or processed outside Bangladesh, including in the United States, the European Union and China. We send each provider only what it needs for its part of the service.
How long we keep it
- Your account, tests, results and transcripts: until you delete your account.
- Essays checked with the free Writing checker: with your account, until you delete your account; without one, 30 days.
- Speaking recordings: up to 180 days after you receive your result, then deleted. You can download or delete them sooner on Your account. Your band and feedback stay.
- Live Speaking audio: not stored by us at all.
- Payment records: kept for our accounts, as the law requires, even after you delete your account — no longer linked to it.
Your choices
- Change your name and target band on Your account.
- Delete your account yourself on Your account. Your tests, answers, essays, recordings, transcripts and marks are deleted with it. This cannot be undone.
- To ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or anything else about your data, write to[email protected].
Cookies and storage in your browser
We use a cookie to keep you signed in, one to protect forms against misuse, and one that recognises your device so your account is used on one device at a time. Your browser also stores your display choices (such as contrast, text size, language and your highlights in a test). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Security
Passwords are stored only as a secure hash. Speaking recordings and payment screenshots are kept privately and shown only to people allowed to see them. All connections to OxidIELTS are encrypted.
Children
If you are under 18, please use OxidIELTS with the permission of a parent or guardian.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell signed-in users by email before the change takes effect.
